This is a duplicate of the egg that will be presented to the White House next spring as part of a display of decorated eggs from every state. Thousands of folks flocked to Bay Day sites to enjoy the special activities planned for the 19th annual Governor's Bay Day.
From kite flying to kayak demos to pirate serenades and bay island boat tours.... there was fun to be had by all.

From over 40 entries, Bay Day sand sculpture winners were chosen by celebrity judges Jim Corbin of ABC6, Ray Lamont, editor of the Westerly Sun-Times and DEM Director Mike Sullivan at Roger Wheeler State Beach.

Governor Donald L. Carcieri today declared July 9th through August 17th as "Fill the Food Bank Days" in the State of Rhode Island, kicking off the start of the annual summer drive for the Rhode Island Food Bank. Fidelity, Shaws, Autocrat, and Job Lot were among the first contributors in the drive to raise 200,000 pounds of food in this typically slow season for donors. (Providence, July 9, 2007)

FIRST Robotics Team and the Engineers of Tomorrow

Governor Donald L. Carcieri met with students and coaches of the three robotics leagues in Rhode Island, to congratulate them on their successful projects. The robots are either Lego type, which involve students aged 10 to 13, or Robotics Team entries, which can be up to five feet tall, or VEX type, which are similar to the large type, but on a smaller scale. Each student was presented with a citation and the group gave the Governor a plaque and tee shirt in recognition of his support of math, science and technology curriculum in Rhode Island schools. At the ceremony, Governor Carcieri honored the memory of all who have served as members of the State Police. National Hurricane Response Planning Exercise

Governor Carcieri toured the joined hurricane response planning exercise. Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA), Rhode Island National Guard, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Department of Defense (DoD) conducted this exercise to test command, control, communication and coordination functions between each of the agency and the ability to work together. This mock Category 3 hurricane exercise was modeled on the hurricane of 1938, that hit Rhode Island.

Governor Carcieri signs the Geotourism Charter between the State of Rhode Island and the National Geographic Society. Rhode Island is the second state and the sixth destination in the world to sign the charter, which demonstrates the state's continued commitment to preservation, conservation and destination stewardship. Geotourism Charters are a key program element of the National Geographic Society's Center for Sustainable Destinations (CSD), which aims to increase the practice of sustainable tourism around the globe. Medicare Bus Tour

Officials from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services kicked off their Medicare Healthier U.S. Starts Here Initiative with Governor Carcieri on Monday, April 23 in front of the State House. Officials say they chose Rhode Island as the first stop on this national tour because of Governor Carcieri's commitment to health and wellness and the state's designation as the first Well State. Medicare is stressing the importance for beneficiaries to receive preventative screenings and tests, most of which are covered under the federal program. Governor Carcieri and the federal officials met with a group of about 25 community stakeholders before holding a press event.

Governor Carcieri officially opened the new Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal. The $21 million, state-of-the-art facility is making it easier to serve those who come before the court. The new court is also centrally located in Cranston, making it more convenient for Rhode Islanders. The Governor was joined by Chief Justice Frank Williams, Traffic Tribunal Chief Judge Albert DeRobbio, Senate President Joseph Montalbano, and House Speaker William Murphy.
