INCREASING ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY AND REDUCING ENERGY COSTS
To address Rhode Island’s energy needs, Governor Carcieri has set a goal of deriving 20 percent of the state’s energy from renewable resources by 2011.
In January 2006, Governor Carcieri announced a five-point energy agenda, which included developing progressive, environmentally-friendly ways to supplement our traditional energy sources. Developing wind- and hydro-power resources and upgrading and heating and air conditioning systems for state buildings are among the ways that the state will achieve this goal.
The Governor has also consistently fought to increase federal funding for energy assistance for low-income Rhode Islanders.
